STUDENT REGENT

Mr. Jeremy Wayne Stewart of Arlington was appointed by Texas Governor Greg Abbott to serve as student regent for a one-year term expiring May 31, 2017. He is the eleventh student to serve on the Board of Regents and is the first to represent the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso. As Student Regent, he serves on the Academic, Clinical, and Student Affairs Committee. 

Mr. Stewart was born and raised in Arlington, Texas and graduated as class president from Arlington High School in 2007. He is the son of Max and Cindy Stewart of Arlington and the grandson to Sandra Chase, Dot Stewart and Bill Stewart, who is a Texas Tech University graduate of the Class of 1951 with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. 

He received his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology in 2011 from The University of Texas at Austin and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2012. 

He is a 4th year medical student pursuing a Doctor of Medicine from the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso Paul L. Foster School of Medicine. He is actively involved in clinic research with the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation, as he aspires to become an orthopaedic surgeon. While at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso, he serves in many leadership roles as President of the Class of 2017, Captain of the Teaching Assistants of the Medical Student Teaching Center, and as past President of the Student Government Association. In 2016, he founded the Hearts for Sparks Golf Classic, an annual charity golf tournament benefiting the Medical Student Run Clinic. He was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society in the spring of 2016. 

As an active member of the Texas Medical Association, Mr. Stewart served as the student representative to the TEXPAC Board of Directors and as the student representative for the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine, which was awarded TMA Chapter of the Year for the first time. 

Mr. Stewart is happily married to Brielle Goldberg Stewart, who is an attorney at Gordon Davis Johnson & Shane P.C. They currently reside in El Paso, Texas with their white Labrador Retriever, Walter. 

Mr. Stewart enjoys playing golf, travelling, watching and playing sports, being outdoors, running marathons, and spending time with family and friends.
