JUAN GRANADOS (AMERICAN)
Ceramic
West Hall
Juan Granados’s work reflects a life of need, growth, and
change. The use of clay allows him to create work that shares
a connection to the land. Interdependence is a common theme
in his work, whether it be positive or negative in nature. In
Growth, Granados merges the image of a pump-like object
with organic motifs such as seeds, roots, and leaves to create
a juxtaposition of mechanic and organic forms.

MICHAEL HURD (AMERICAN)
Oil on Canvas
West Hall
Artist Michael Hurd is the son of well-known artists Peter
Hurd and Henriette Wyeth Hurd. He works from reality and
believes the actual subject must be experienced to convey it in
a painting. His paintings are left open-ended and ambiguous
for the viewer to resolve. Hurd seeks to make the viewer an
integral part of the painting’s function and does not want to
define meanings so tightly that they are inescapable.
