ANGELO STATE UNIVERSITY
San Angelo Heritage Mosaic
2013
JULIE RICHEY (AMERICAN)
Ceramic Tile
Porter Henderson Library
This mosaic reflects the connections between Angelo State
University and the surrounding community. The sides of the
wall depict landscape scenes including native plants, wildlife
and symbols derived from the nearby Paint Rock pictographs
painted by the Jumano Native Americans. The top of the
wall depicts “snapshot” elements important to San Angelo
cultural identity, such as a Rambouillet Ram, an Aeromotor
windmill, the historic railroad trestle bridge over the Concho
River, and “Mia’s Alice” and “Texas Dawn” species grown at
the International Water Lily Gardens.

Kinesis

Kinesis stands out in the open, animating the space, providing
movement and immediacy, emotionally and visually. It
is movement concretized; its swirls lend a visual image to
the concept of motion, in both its horizontal and vertical
components. Kinesis can also be seen as a dance; the undulating
red ribbons soar, swirl, and touch the ground, a study in both
kinetics and repose.
