Mitchell Named Defensive Backs Coach

Brigham Young University assistant Brian Mitchell has been named defensive backs coach of the Red Raider football program. He will be on staff when the Red Raiders begin spring drills March 22.
Mitchell, an 11-year veteran in the collegiate ranks, replaces Dave Brown, who unexpectedly passed away in January.
A 1995 graduate of BYU, Mitchell played for former BYU Cougar coach Lavelle Edwards during the 1987-90 seasons and was a seventh-round draft pick of the Atlanta Falcons in 1991.
He spent three seasons in the NFL with Atlanta and the Dallas Cowboys. The All-WAC cornerback played in four bowls while at BYU and ran the opening leg of BYU’s All- America 400M relay team.
Mitchell returned to BYU in 1994 as the team’s cornerbacks coach and was in the position through the 2005 season. The Waco native earned a degree in clinical social work upon his return to BYU.
Mitchell and his wife, Carri, have two daughters, Mikenzi and Halie, and a son, Brian.
