John C. Shelton
Assistant General Counsel
John C. Shelton joined the Office of General Counsel in 2016 as an Assistant General Counsel, and works mostly with contracting matters. Prior to joining the Office of General Counsel, John was in private practice where he focused on real property, title and oil and gas law matters.
John graduated from Emory University in 2003 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a minor in History. He worked in numerous political and legislative offices while an undergraduate student, including an internship in the White House Office of Global Communications during the spring of 2003. Before law school, John worked in public relations, particularly with public affairs, energy, and technology related clients. He attended Texas Tech University School of Law where he received a Doctor of Jurisprudence, cum laude, in May of 2011. While in law school, John completed the Law & Science Certificate Program with a concentration in Energy Law. Additionally, John was a member of the Texas Tech Journal of Administrative Law as well as the Board of Barristers.
John is a member of the State Bar of Texas and the State Bar of New Mexico. He is also an Eagle Scout.
