TTU System Honored for Charitable Giving in Statewide Campaign
September 5, 2018 | Texas Tech University System
At the Texas Tech University System Town Hall and State Employee Charitable Campaign
(SECC) Kickoff event on Sept. 4, Sammye Sharbutt, Greater West Texas campaign manager
for the SECC, presented Interim Chancellor Dr. Tedd L. Mitchell with plaques recognizing
the TTU System’s exemplary participation in the campaign over the past few years.
In 2017, the TTU System administration and component institutions earned the honor
of Largest Per Capita Gift – with an average of nearly $80 per person donated – for
a higher education organization with more than 2,001 employees in Texas. This is a
repeat honor after the TTU System earned the same recognition in 2016, along with
the award for Highest Participation percentage.
This year, Texas Tech University’s goal is $463,000 and Texas Tech University Health
Sciences Center aims to raise $262,017, with an additional TTU System administration
goal of $42,000.
Texas’ SECC is one of the largest state employee campaigns in the nation. Each fall,
state employees are given the opportunity to learn about the charities in the SECC,
choose which organizations to support, and then fill out pledge forms to indicate
their donations. Since the campaign was established by the Texas Legislature in 1993,
Texas agency and higher education employees have contributed more than $175 million
through the SECC benefiting a variety of charities.
