Dear Texas Tech University Community:

I want to inform each of you that I will be stepping down as President of Texas Tech University effective January 31, 2009 or when a new president takes office. I plan to return to my position as a Professor.

The strength of Texas Tech University is its people. Each of you as individuals and all of you as a collective enterprise have worked day-in-and-day-out to advance our missions of teaching, research, and public service. During my five years we have kept the idea of putting people first as a guiding standard. You are those people. Jennifer and I are grateful for your continuous friendship and support and for your great effort to make Texas Tech better each year. Together we have accomplished much.

The future for Texas Tech is very bright and we will carry our banner high as we move forward and upward.

Jon Whitmore
